Modernism Week: Fabric Printing
Led by Judy Paolini
Friday 9:30am-1:30pm
Midcentury modern architecture and furniture had a profound impact on textile design. Flat geometric shapes, bold colors and stylized motifs were the hallmark of a new Post-war era. Pioneers such as Jacqueline Groag, Ray Eames, Alexander Girard, and Britian’s Lucienne Day were just few of the designers who embraced modernist principals to create the fabrics that are an iconic part of the midcentury look and have influenced textiles for three quarters of a century.
Join us in creating your own midcentury-inspired textile designs and learn the art of creating printed fabric using a variety of handmade and found object stamps. After first practicing with ink and paper, graphic designer and artist Judy Paolini will guide you through the process of hand-printing specialized inks on natural fabrics to make a one-of-a-kind Modernist wall hanging.
