EVELYN LEWIS LUBERG (1904-1989)

Las Palmas Arts is dedicated to the memory of Evelyn and all that she represents. Evelyn was my beloved grandmother and a force of nature. Everything was fascinating in her eyes, and a potential source of artistic inspiration. As a young woman she was adventurous and bold, often rejecting the female norms of her time. She became a printmaker, an illustrator, a watercolorist and a musician.

As much as she enjoyed creating art, Evelyn loved to share the art making process with others. She would introduce her latest technique to anyone that entered her home- pulling paper, tools, ink and paint out of her art cupboard for anyone that did not object. She was the art teacher at Wilson High School in Long Beach, California for most of her professional life.

Evelyn is the inspiration behind Las Palmas Arts; art is for everyone, artists enjoy sharing and anyone can experience the joy of making something beautiful.
