Kiln Fired Enamel Jewelry: Mid Mod Earrings

Vitreous enameling is an ancient technique of fusing thin layers of glass to a metal surface at high temperature. The technique can be used to make beautiful, richly colored components for jewelry or other decorative art.

In this workshop, participants apply finely ground glass to copper, and then learn how to safely fire the glass and copper in a 1500 degree kiln. We will make several test samples, before choosing a combination of glass colors and mid century modern shaped copper forms to fire into finished earring components. Each person will then attach sterling silver or gold filled earwires, and take home a finished pair of unique handmade earrings.
