Metalsmithing: Tube Setting Faceted Stones
Led by Signe Sterner
Saturday 9am-3:30pm
Tube setting is a versatile stone setting technique used to add faceted stones to jewelry. It creates a clean classical look that can be used in simple or complex designs. In the first part of this workshop, we will first practice cutting silver tube, use a setting burr to create a “seat” for the stone, and solder the setting to a back plate. We will then learn how to seat the stone evenly, and burnish it into place. Participants will either make and take home a beautiful stone set ring or pair of stone set stud earrings, depending on their individual metalsmithing skills and experience. Open to all levels of experience. (Some soldering skills are helpful, but due to small class size this can be taught during the workshop!) All supplies included in cost.
