Kiln Fired Enameling

Kiln Fired Enameling

Led by Signe Sterner

Friday 1pm-5pm

In this workshop you will learn to kiln fire glass to metal, and make a beautiful piece of handmade jewelry to keep or give as a special gift. There is also the option to make a decorative wall tile instead of a jewelry piece if you prefer. First we will learn about the process of firing the ground glass to copper in a 1500 degree kiln, and experience the awe of pulling that first glassy piece out of the kiln. From there we will fire several samples to practice the process and get a feel for the time needed in the kiln to get that perfectly fused surface. This four hour workshop also covers counter enameling, color layering, and how to create a matte finish. We will then choose glass colors and metal forms to make enameled components for our finished piece.

All supplies, including sterling silver findings, are included in cost. No prior experience needed.
