Bronze Precious Metal Clay (2 Days)

Silver Precious Metal Clay (2 Days)

Led by Juli Cavnar

Thursday 9:30am-11:30pm / Friday 9:30am-11:30pm

Join this workshop to explore the beauty, fun and simplicity of precious metal clay jewelry making. Precious metal clay was created in Japan in the 1990s. It is a binder that manipulates like clay but contains molecular sized metal bits, allowing for dimensional and textural work not easily replicated with traditional metalworking. After creating the piece, it is kiln fired to burn off the binder and leave solid metal. In this workshop we will provide you with 50 grams of bronze clay, which allows you to create 2-3 pairs of earrings and a pendant. On the first day, we will spend time exploring the material, then designing and making the pieces. The clay will be fired into solid bronze overnight. The next day we will return to collect the pieces from the kiln, then polish and finish. No experience is necessary--just a readiness to experiment with design, shape and texture.

Juli Cavnar is a local jewelry designer and maker. Her work can be found at the Shops at 1345 and during various pop up events throughout Palm Springs.
